Brihang, Richard Galliano, Esinam and Zotteg(h)em complete GENT JAZZ ‘Back to Live’ programme

Brihang, Richard Galliano New Musette Quartet, Esinam and Zotteg(h)em complete the bill for Gent Jazz “Back to Live”. The festival starts next week on Friday 9 July and will last for ten days.

With CASCO, Brihang delivered a very strong second album. The single “Stone” became an instant classic and he collected no less than six MIA nominations. “The body, the shell, the skeleton, the house is stripped down to the shell of concrete and steel”, is how he describes the search for himself, the essence of this very tasteful album. Besides being a versatile musician, Brihang is also a brilliant live performer who likes to colour outside the lines, and on July 15, we will witness this.

As a fixture on the European jazz scene, French accordionist Richard Galliano needs little introduction. In this project, Galliano will be performing his own interpretations of French musette waltzes with influences from jazz, blues, tango and even Brazilian music on July 10.

ESINAM, short for Esinam Dogbatse, is a Belgian-Ghanese multi-instrumentalist. She blends her brilliant soulful voice with traditional African percussion, electronic influences, dazzling melodies and reverent flute playing. We will undoubtedly be hearing a lot from this artist in the years to come. On July 15 she will be performing at Gent Jazz together with Pablo Casella (guitar), Axel Gilain (double bass) and Martin Méreau (vibraphone and drums).

Zotteg(h)em is a project by the late composer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Wouters. His companions de route made a selection from his rich oeuvre and powerfully revive his adventurous musical world with a sound that brings him back to life. This project completes the programme on Monday July 12.

Gent Jazz ‘Back to Live’ brings a particularly varied and strong programme with a lot of local and European talent. The festival wants to turn its 20th anniversary into a musical feast where everyone feels welcome to enjoy live music again.
