JOHN ZORN first name GHENT JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019!
You won’t find it anywhere on CD, there are no radio recordings available anywhere and anyone searching online could better save themselves some time. But on Tuesday, 9th July 2019, John Zorn will be bringing his “Bagatelles” to the Ghent Jazz Festival for an unforgettable live experience. John Zorn, the leading man of the New York avant-garde scene since the 1980s, brings together an impressive number of musicians for this unique project and has no fewer than fourteen sets at the Ghent Jazz Festival. The 18th festival edition runs from June 28 to July 9, 2019 inclusive at the enchanting Bijloke site in Ghent. Tickets can be purchased from www.gentjazz.com or at an Fnac store in your area.
John Zorn is a free spirit who breaks boundaries and categories. Contemporary classical music, punk, metal, klezmer, jazz … everything is good for this indomitable musician. On Tuesday 9th July he will unleash his “bagatelles”, freely translated as “musical trifles”, at the Ghent Jazz Festival. No less than thirty musicians will take you in fourteen sets on a musical adventure through the world of John Zorn. Joey Baron, Dave Douglas, Craig Taborn, Marc Ribot and John Medeski, among others, will fire some of their trifles at you. Zorn himself kicks off this last festival day with his Acoustic Masada band.
Finally back in Ghent
This unsurpassed experimentalist, who was honoured in 2011 by the University College Ghent with the honorary title of Magister Artium Gandensis for his merits in the arts, has a special bond with Ghent. For example, Zorn is on stage at the Ghent Jazz Festival for the fourth time this summer after he released “Electric Masada” in 2003, “Acoustic Masada” in 2006 and “Zorn at 60” in 2013. Prepare yourself for this concert? Don’t bother. There are no recordings of “bagatelles”. The projects are protected for the handful of live concerts that John Zorn does all over the world. The Ghent Jazz Festival 2019 promises an exceptional opportunity to experience “Bagatelles” live!
More names for the Ghent Jazz Festival 2019 will be announced shortly.
